November Pups
Hi Everyone: Just wanted to let you all know that the babies did real well at the airport. Hazel acted like she was on a great adventure, though she didn't like the crate too much and was all too happy to get out for a bathroom break. Wally and Wilbur were a little more timid. Shaking - just not sure what was going on and all the strange sights and smells. Once out of their crates though they were their usual selves and so full of kisses & hugs. They all did real well, and all settled down once …
Homeward Bound – Sunday November 14
Kim, Darcie and the pups will have a long day ahead of them today and won’t have access to the internet so I thought I would do a Blog entry on their behalf.
Kim and Darcie were at the shelter at 3:15 AM this morning getting the dogs ready for the 10:00 flight. After a 5½ hour flight, they will arrive in Seattle and it will take them another 7-9 hours before they arrive in Victoria. Good luck on your voyage home Kim and Darcie and many thanks to all the wonderful people in Alabama for your hospitality and taking such good care of them while they were there. -Dog Bless Webmaster SATURDAY AT THE RESCUE
We had a wonderful day at the shelter. We readied the crates for the journey tomorrow and had a great time with the volunteers who work so hard for the dogs at K911. 12 dogs will be making the trip north with us tomorrow and we are just so thrilled to be able to find them wonderful homes in Victoria.
After a magnificent pot luck lunch Darcie shared her knowledge with the rescue workers on how to handle common behavioural issues with shelter dogs and things they can do to make the animals more adoptable. It was well received and I think we all learned something! After lunch we managed to have an impromptu birthday party for Loraine and the volunteers in Shadow's Rest which is well under construction thanks to the generosity of so many dog lovers Andie with Spanky Larry and Loraine receive a wonderful gift from the volunteers and Loraine sports a new cowgirl hat We have had a wonderful time here in Alabama. Everyone has been so generous with their time and opened their homes and hearts to us. We are reticent to leave but happy to be returning home with such precious cargo ELMORE COUNTY - WETUMPKA ALABAMA
We had a wonderful opportunity to meet Rea Cord and her staff at Elmore County Humane Society in Wetumpka. They try so hard to save the animals but the numbers are overwhelming. They have drop cages outside the shelter and often they find many dogs in there when they arrive... people just abandon their pets. It's better at least then leaving them on the side of the road. We saw several very sad sights of dogs dead on the road or running wild. One had puppies as she was obviously lactating but Patti couldn't catch her.
The good news is that we rescued two wonderful dogs from Elmore County, Veni and Sherri who had been there far too long. They were scared and nervous but totally made themselves at home after a bath and some good food. Sherri is sponsored by Arlene Urness and she will make someone a very proud owner. both are loving and sweet and so deserving of a ticket to Canada Sherri getting a little lap time with Miss Darcie (as she's known here) Aunty Patti gives her a bath and a trim Both dogs are just wonderful. It was only two in a shelter of so many deserving little ones but we did save two great dogs... apologies
Hello everyone. Apologies for not posting more on the blog, it's not always easy to have access to the internet and upload is very slow. will try to post some pictures later on today.
We visited the wonderful Rea Cord at Elmore county shelter and rescued Veni and Sherry. Veni is a little lab mix and is as sweet as can be. Sherry is a tiny 8lb terrier girl who has made herself at home in anyone's lap. Both very precious pups. we will be getting the remaining dogs ready for their trip tomorrow and setting up crates in the van. I can't believe the we have been here 5 days already, we've had just such a splendid time. will post more on our trip later on today. WEDNESDAYDaisy Mae is coming home ot Canada also. Sweet girl, she's a mini retriever. short legs, will not be a big dog, still a puppy GiGi the great dane. Was horribly abused, her legs show the scars of chains. and chronic infections. the most loving and majestic dog. Will take a while to heal from the abuse but is in Larry's loving hands. Feeding time, everyone follows the tractor! LAKE MARTIN SHELTER ALEXANDER CITY ALABAMAtoday I went to Lake Martin shelter and met with the staff. the shelter was pretty full despite the fact that they euthanized 36 animals yesterday afternoon. I'm glad we went on a wednesday as Tuesdays and Thursdays are euth days. Intake so far for November was 70 animals. There were several litters of puppies, all as adorable as you get. sweet little things and so loving. Would be highly adoptable in victoria.
AT THE RESCUE K911WE ARE HEREWell we have arrived safe and sound. The weather is beautiful and we are staying with Patti and Karen in their gorgeous home in the country. We had a wonderful supper with Larry and Loraine last night and will be heading over to the rescue this morning. The journey seemed long but it all went very smoothly. Darcie wants everyone to know she didn't eat the biscuit featured in the last post but made a valiant effort and at least tasted it. We been promised real biscuits with jelly so will look forward to that. We are going to do some assessments of the dogs this morning and hopefully head over to Lake Martin this afternoon. MONDAY NOVEMBER 8TH
We are on our way! We made the ferry and hit the border just after 7 p.m. The guard didn't know what to make of us... we had over 20 dog crates in the van. He just shook his head and waved us through. We've made it to the hotel and am looking forward to the 5 a.m. wake up call ugh... so far so good
AT SEATAC AIRPORTThe adventure continues. We made it to the airport in plenty of time and even have time for breakfast. I have no idea what Jennings had to eat, it looked awful. She says it tastes about the same. The flight is on time and we are ready to go!

Wow, look who had his raincoat signed by Cesar Millan. Former homeless California dude, Pete Pedro, looking sooo stylish. PUPS AT THE LAKE
It was a wonderful fall day and we met at the lake with Tonya and two of our puppies, Domino and Dott. They had a wonderful time exploring the forest and were eager to greet everyone who they came into contact with. We had to chase after them a couple of times as they decided to follow other packs but eventually they got the hang of it and they were just terrific.
We have lots of applications for the pups and Domino has gone to his new home tonight. Wonderful people who have horses and are incredibly active and dog savvy. They know the breed and they're up for the challenge. Other pups will likely be in their new homes in short order. Tonya is doing very well and just loves Johanne already (thank you for fostering her Johanne and giving her this chance) She's really coming out of her shell and did so well on our walk. So proud of you Tonya.. here's some pics from today October Pups
